Peter George Blair inspects the outer-wing to inner-wing connection of a Dakota (aka, Douglas DC-3) under restoration in Ft Collins, Colorado. He has observed that the bending moment, shear, and torque are transferred by a pattern of 328 bolts (usually covered by a rubber boot) in the wing-skins. Also, he has noticed that, in contrast to general practice, there are no carry-through-splices for the three spars .
